When is the Halfway to Halloween Celebration?
Halfway to Halloween, or “Halfoween,” is celebrated approximately six months before the actual Halloween event. It typically starts around April 30th or May 1st each year.
This date carries historical significance as it is celebrated as Walpurgis Night in many parts of Europe. If you’re unfamiliar with Walpurgis Night, it is a unique evening when witches are said to gather and welcome the spring with their eerie energy. This special night is also known as Witches’ Night.
It holds similarities with Samhain, the origin of Halloween. According to ancient traditions, the veil between worlds is thinnest during this time of year, allowing the souls of the dead to roam the Earth freely.
Additionally, May 1st marks Beltane, a pagan celebration of May Day. Both Samhain and Beltane are fire festivals, set directly opposite each other on the wheel of the year.
